One there was a girl. She was not made of rainbows and sugar, but of rain clouds and spice. Oh she loved the colors of light bouncing along the waves, the warm sun rosy on her cheeks, the fine powder of white sand, all these things brought her great joy and inspiration. But her soul was made of evergreens and her strength came from the blackest earth between her toes.

That girl had a beautiful trip to Florida, left a piece of her heart there with her kindred spirit and returned with a rejuvenated sense of purpose (and a new painting to begin).

My Ti, forever finding the tiniest bits of wonder.

My toes, forever Barbie doll shades of poppy.

A window, forever finding these little holes through which to see the world.

Eat your Greens!

Its time to eat your greens friends, although you would never guess that with the weather up here in Seattle (SNOW! and 35 degrees! and HAIL bouncing off my windshield as I tried to find tonic for g&t in my fair city). But the clouds up here are fickle, and I know the sun will come peeping through the pink of my cherry blossom tree soon soon. So I am content, I will keep eating my kale and kohlrabi and (shameful imported Mexican) avocados until the sun brings me a new green harvest.

Soooo, My Birthday Month

I know, its usually only the sickeningly self-centered that dedicate a whole month to themselves but I feel like life keeps sending me presents.

Like this beautifully decorated rock, found exactly as is (on a GLORIOUS blue-skies afternoon), on my birthday up at Deception Pass - I mean, when nature sends you presents, you've really got to notice!

Happy Days

Lots going on, lots I tell you. Its been a busy week, but with a fair share of little things that have made me stop and smile. Like this cookie that I was so tempted by, I mean, who doesn't want a pink frosted cookie that promises deliverance?

And this, a sublimely happy package of pillow covers on their way to Illinois, to grace a sofa in someone else's home.

And little vignettes that give gentle suggestion and offer happy thoughts of friends.
Ah, some days I am so aware of how much I love this life.

Workin' Girl

I am in love with Spring. I know it will be fickle, but the last few days have given me fever like none other. Even the kitty boys are soaking it up, taking in all the fresh air and sunny spots they can find.

After a lovely, lazy morning perusing the vendors at the Fremont market, I finally settled in and got back to work on my newest obsession: a line of handcrafted pillows I am selling in my little shop! Which means (drums roll in the distance), the shop o' etsy wonders is open for business! Hooray! Very Excite!

So check it out, tell your friends, and then go pour yourself a big glass of sunshine for me.

Time for warm, cool, and a cuppa

Lately I have found myself in a place that is simple with words but rich with imagery. My thoughts have been filled with old trees, new growth, the color turquise, woven texture, the shape of crows, and light on water. It is a time of introspective thought, so I can only leave you with the images they spark.

A very merry December to you too

December has arrived and it came bearing gifts. Not the jingle-jangly, bells and whistles, shiny sequins way that I have come to expect, but softly, with a hush and blanket of snow. Fat snowflakes fell like stardust and covered my city in a pristine cloak of white. They piled up on my cherry blossom tree, giving prophetic new meaning to the December print for my calendar. They formed fluffy shoulder pads on my coat and topped my hat like a crown.

It felt like a new holiday, the true beginning of advent. The city seemed to stop and people came out to see it, laughing (what?), smiling at strangers (seriously?), and celebrating life divine (believe it!).
Even my busy life was put on hold for glittering walks, frosty Manhattans, and communion with friends.

Thank you, December, you are truly the icing on my year.
